Williams, who started last Nov. 1, was chosen in a nationwide search to find a successor for long-time director Claudette Cromartie, who retired.
“I have been in the housing industry for over 25 years,” Williams said. “I started with my very first job out of college.” She was hired then by the St. Louis Housing Authority to manage its rental and certification program.
After her husband’s death, she and her daughter decided on a change and moved to New Orleans, where Williams served as chief of staff at the housing authority and was there for five years. It was also during that time that she began working on behalf of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to assist other local agencies that were having trouble.
