The City Council’s Economic Development Committee this morning received an update on efforts to attract residential and commercial projects to neighborhoods around five mass transit corridors: along Lancaster Boulevard, MLK, Hatcher Street, Vickery Meadow and Buckner. Planning has been under way for months, underwritten by a $2.25 million federal grant that targets creation of affordable housing near public transportation. The work will include identifying and detailing potential redevelopment opportunities in areas, mostly in southern Dallas, that could use an infusion of investment and a change of scene. Committee members viewed these visuals and heard a final draft of the plan is due by year’s end. More public meetings are scheduled for next month. And, as often, a big challenge will be attracting developers to make all the talk and visioning happen.
