Indianapolis metro area ranked No. 1 in housing affordability

The metro area is once again the most affordable big-city housing market in the nation, wresting back an honor that had been stolen away the past few quarters by Youngstown, Ohio; Syracuse, N.Y.; and Lakeland, Fla.  The home affordability rankings, called the Wells Fargo Housing Opportunity Index, are released by the National Association of Home Builders. They figure the percentage of homes sold in every metro area that are affordable to families earning the area’s median income.  The Indianapolis metro area has ranked as most affordable for 22 of the past 27 quarters, including a dominating run of 17 straight quarters from mid-2005 through early 2010.
