Tom Burns Burns named citizen of year for Englewood County, CO

“I ran for the Colorado House of Representatives in 1972 in what was then House District 37. I lost by 37 votes,” he said. “I was still interested in public service, I was living in Englewood and I was asked if I would be interested in serving on the Englewood Housing Authority.”  He accepted the appointment in 1973, became chairman a couple years later and served in that position for 24 years.  He became interested in the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials and was named Colorado NAHRO Commissioner of the Year in 1998.
