Lathrop Homes residents ask for CHA assurance

Residents of a Northwest Side public housing complex said today they want the Chicago Housing Authority to guarantee they can continue living in their homes during a future redevelopment project. Lathrop Homes residents, the complex’s local advisory council and Ald. Proco “Joe” Moreno said at a press conference that the CHA promised residents they would not be transferred to other facilities during the redevelopment. A start date on the project has not yet been scheduled.  In a statement, CHA said it can relocate residents during an emergency, but doesn’t expect to do so at Lathrop on the 2000 Block of West Diversey Avenue. The agency is looking at a variety of plans that will be narrowed down to three and presented to residents over the next three months, said Wendy Parks, an agency spokeswoman.
