The public housing site named after Rockford College’s famous graduate and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Jane Addams will be home to Rockford residents in need once again. But the new Jane Addams Village will have a new name — Jane’s Nobel Village, a new look — it’s the Rockford Housing Authority’s first new construction project in more than 30 years, and a new clientele. Jane’s Nobel Village is a $9 million construction project. It broke ground in January and should wrap up by the end of the year. It’s being built on the site of Jane Addams Village, which was demolished in 2008. The RHA hopes to start signing leases for the new development as soon as next month. Nearly all of the money — $8 million — is coming from low-income housing tax credits. The housing authority is financing the rest.
