Allentown: First phase of Cumberland Garden renovations unveiled in Allentown

In 2006, the Philadelphia-based Pennrose Properties razed the Allentown Housing Authority’s Hanover Acres and Riverview Terrace developments with plans to transform 420 units of aging public housing stock into a modern community. Today, more than 300 apartments, twins and homes now stand on tree-lined streets of Overlook Park, the second incarnation of the east end community nestled into the hillside north of Hanover Avenue. This week, the authority unveiled the first phase of Pennrose’s latest project in Allentown — a $15.1 million renovation of the Cumberland Gardens community in the city’s south side.
