Turmoil continued at the Jefferson Parish Housing Authority last week when its interim director, Dalton Simmons, resigned. Simmons’ departure comes at a time when Parish President John Young has ordered an investigation to determine whether members of the authority’s Board of Commissioners should be removed from their posts for neglect of duty. Young has sought a number of records, including contracts, bank statements, cancelled checks and Bordelon’s emails.
The Housing Authority has been under scrutiny since an inspector general from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development found thousands of dollars in questionable expenses over a three-year period, including $100,000 in payments to the authority’s board members for attending meetings. Bordelon resigned in August after calls by the Jefferson Parish Council for his termination.
