UNR’s Regional Studies helps bring in $21 million in Reno housing grants

Data is crucial, especially when applying for a multimillion-dollar federal grant to help stabilize some of the most distressed neighborhoods in Reno and Sparks.

When the Reno Housing Authority applied for $21 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in 2010, the agency asked the Center for Regional Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno to provide information about the local real estate market.

The data gathered by the UNR team helped determine that the Oliver Montello area in Reno, Stead, Sun Valley and three neighborhoods in Sparks would benefit the most.

Goals and expectancies also were established from the information provided by the center.
