Florida will give out $60 million in mortgage help as part of the national $25 billion foreclosure-abuse settlement, Attorney General Pam Bondi said. The Legislative Budget Commission approved Bondi’s proposal to distribute the funds with the bulk — $35 million — to go for down payment help. Another $10 million will be used for housing counseling; $5 million for the state courts to help with foreclosure-related issues; $5 million for the Attorney General’s Office to help fund legal aid programs; and $5 million for the Attorney General’s Office to reimburse the office and to continue its efforts to remedy abuses of the foreclosure process. The state has another $200 million to distribute as part of the settlement. But Bondi, Senate President Don Gaetz and House Speaker Will Weatherford agreed last November that those monies would be allocated by the Legislature this spring.
